How much does tree removal cost in Boston?

The cost of tree removal in the Boston area varies based on factors such as tree size, type, location, and accessibility. On average, homeowners can expect to pay between $300 and $600 for tree removal services. Here's a breakdown of typical costs:

Small Tree (up to 30 feet): $300 - $800

Medium Tree (30 - 60 feet): $500 - $1,200

Large Tree (More than 60 feet): $800 - $1,800

Actual costs can vary based on the complexity of the job and specific site conditions

  • Can i cut the tree myself?
Removing a tree is not a DIY job. It requires a tree service company with the experience, equipment, skills, and safety record to do it properly.
  • Can you give me an estimate for pruning or tree removal over the phone?
Yes, we can provide estimates over the phone. However, pricing is not only determined by the type of tree but also the location, surrounding areas, ease of access, growth patterns, stability and structure, as well as other factors such as driveway, road, house and wire locations. As a result, on-site estimates are more accurate.
  • Do you offer winter discounts?
Yes, we are typically able to offer better pricing during the winter months. The lack of leaves, as well as the frozen ground, can lead to jobs taking less time than at other times of the year - and we pass those savings on to you!
  • Do you accept credit cards?
Yes, we accept payment by credit card at no additional charge.
  • Do you give free estimates for tree work?
Yes, we offer a complimentary consultation.
  • Do you offer a discount for payment in cash, senior citizens, or veterans?
Yes, we do. Please give us a call at ‪(617) 871-9473‬ for details about the discounts we offer.
  • Does someone need to be home when the work is done?
No. We often do work when people are not home. We typically will mark the trees so that it is clear what work should be done. We’re often told that people know we were there because it’s cleaner than they left it.
  • Do you work in the winter/snow/rain?
We work year-round through all types of weather conditions. However, we may shift our schedule during particularly harsh weather, not only for the safety of our crew, but also for the health of your trees and landscape. For safety reasons, we are unable to work during lightning and/or strong winds. Winter storms may also delay work.
  • What time of the year is best to cut or prune trees?
The best timing for tree work really depends on the type of tree. But, generally speaking, pruning is best done when the tree is dormant which typically is during the winter months.
  • How far out are you booking for tree work?
We do our best to meet any deadlines that you may have. Our goal is to book a little thin to leave room for emergency and/or time-sensitive jobs. We do our best not to push people back. By booking a little thin we are often able to pull jobs forward and get them done sooner if people are flexible. The scheduling times can vary throughout the year.
  • How long will the job take?
The length of time required to properly and safely complete tree work will vary based on a lot of factors. Until we see the tree(s) and the job site, we can't give you a realistic estimate for that. We will definitely discuss timing with you during and/or after an estimate is completed.
  • What's the difference between stump removal and stump grinding?
The best option for you will depend on what you would like to do with the area where the tree was. If you want to plant another tree in the area, we recommend removing the stump (rather than grinding it). This will remove more of the root system from the old tree to make room for the new tree to grow. Stump grinding will allow you to plant grass and small plants in the area but does not remove as much of the old root system. As a result, we don't recommend planting a new tree in the same spot.
  • Is it cheaper to have you leave wood or take it away?
If you are willing to have us leave the wood and/or the chips left over after work is completed, we're able to offer you a better price for the work.
  • Is there a cost for cutting wood into smaller lengths (e.g., for firewood)?
If we are leaving the wood on your property, we typically leave it in 6 to 8 foot lengths. This is the normal length of wood that's cut as part of a tree removal job. We charge extra for anything smaller due to extra time, labor, gas and equipment use.
